Daily Update - Mohammad Elkady - (May-25-2022)
1. What did I do today?
I have met with Dr. Misra, and I have read SPE 200347-MS about surfactant simulation using CMG GEM.
2. What did I find interesting/Work on?
· In this paper they used CMG GEM to simulate surfactant injection treatment.
· To emulate the shift in wettability from oil wet to water wet and changes in IFT between phases, the interpolation between relative permeability curves and capillary pressure curves was used.
· Dual Porosity/Dual Permeability model was used.
· 1D simulation models were built to understand how the interpolation method capture the wettability shift through changes in relative permeability curves and capillary pressure curves, these curves designed arbitrarily to facilitate models’ interpretation.
o Fracture spacing has great impact on the oil recovery, oil recovery increases with decreasing fracture spacing or increasing fracture density.
o Surfactant slug size is relative to fracture volume, but in general surfactant slug effect on the oil recovery is minimal.
· 2D Simulation models were designed to study the surfactant injection in a HnP type of injection scheme into a zone containing oil and water.
· Fluid saturations near HnP wells are an uncertainty that will affect out oil recovery and should be addressed by running different scenarios
The figure attached below is the model parameters and Oil & water relative permeability curves and the capillary pressure curves they used to develop their models.
3. What will I do next?
As we discussed in the meeting, I will keep collecting more papers about surfactant simulation using CMG STARS and try to find some questions we can answer by developing a deep learning model.
Also, I will get familiar with the software by reading the software manual and watch some tutorials about it.
