Daily Update - Mohammad Elkady - (June-03-2022)
1. What did I do today?
I read SPE 186325 about Surfactant simulation using CMG STARS. Also, I searched for more tutorials about CMG STARS.
2. What did I find interesting/Work on?
SPE 186325 - This paper address simulation of surfactant injection into waterflooded reservoir to increase oil recovery.
· Relative permeability alteration due to IFT are represented in interpolation parameter named DTRAPW and DTRAPN, which is log value of critical capillary number for both wetting and non-wetting phase, respectively.
· The primary objective of coreflood simulation history match is to obtain parameter required for pilot forecast such as
o residual oil saturation reduction,
o chemical retention, and
o relative permeability end point during miscible condition
· History matching is done as follows:
o Match initial waterflood performance by adjusting
§ Oil and water endpoint relative permeability and,
§ Residual oil saturation.
§ Low critical capillary number.
o Match of surfactant and chase water performance by adjusting
§ Residual oil saturation
§ Oil-water relative permeability end points
§ High critical capillary number
· Parameters that affect surfactant flood performance:
o Surfactant adsorption
o Permeability
o Residual oil saturation
o Critical capillary number
· Reduction of contact angle by surfactant can be represented by reducing water relative permeability curve slope in the high capillary number relative permeability sets
I did find online trainings about CMG STARS but unfortunately, the trainings will begin in July.
3. What will I do next?
I will keep reading bout surfactant simulation using CMG STARS software and Also, I will keep searching for training materials for the software itself.
