1.  What did I do today?

Today, I applied some concepts from the Introduction to CMG workflow tutorial and skimmed through one of three previous papers of Dr. Misra about Water Management in Unconventional reservoirs.

2.  What did I find interesting/Work on? 

-       Notes from CMG example project using IMEX

o   When you need to convert wells from producers to injectors, you have to copy these wells then shut in the old wells.

o   There are two types of injectors, Injector MOBWEIGHTG in which mobility is dependent on the reservoir properties and Injector UNWEIGHT in which user can input the mobility directly

o   As constraints, CONT REPEAT Action repeats the time step at which the violation happens which is more accurate than CONT but more time consuming.

o   In RESULTS, you can see different views of your reservoir by creating dashboard and unlink the reservoir properties and that can be used to determine the best location for your well but as a more effective way you should use CMOST to pick the best location.

-       Data-driven workflow for the preemptive detection of excess water producing wells drilled in unconventional shales

o   Based on permutation feature ranking and Kendall Tau’s associated test, the sources of excess water are:

§  Highly water wet and low thermally matured shale in Fort Worth

§  Absence of bituminous and pyrite bearing shales in Gulf Coast basin.

o   More than 90% of the flowback + Produced waters are coming from the produced water (Formation water).

o   It is believed that the water migrated before the smectite to illite transformation.

o   Injection of water into the subsurface is linked to the increased seismic activity.

o   Water contains organic compounds (Benzine and BTEX) makes it unsafe for drinking or irrigation.

o   Can’t be used for HF because of the logistics to handle transportation

3.  What will I do next? 

I will read more about water management in unconventional reservoirs from papers of Dr. Misra’s group and other literature. Also, I will try to apply on CMG fundamentals using IMEX, Builder and RESULTS software.
